In my last post, a reader — D — wrote a beautiful letter about recovering after making the decision to follow her heart. Her letter is very inspiring and you can read it here, if you have not done so already.

D also asked me some excellent questions — they are so good that I’d like to share them with everyone so we can all benefit from a discussion on them.

Please share your thoughts — I’d love to hear other perspectives!

Questions from D

I belive I’m grateful for being bulimic that short time (around 2 years), because I wouldn’t be in the place I’m in now, but I have my doubts (like being ashamed of myself and wakness, even not trusting myself completely).

They only appear when I’m in negative mood, which brings negative memories, and I start being affraid of a possible relapse.

Now I fight them with thinking of the things I did and learned, sometimes even NLP (like imagining It as a scene), but I feel my self -worth was wounded, and regaining it is still a matter of question.

How did you mange to stay on track?

Heather’s Answer: D, you are very wise! You are already doing exactly what many healers tell us to do when clearing negative energy from our minds and bodies.

What happens to us when we get illness or addiction (what people get often depends on their genetic blueprint PLUS the thoughts they have which “charge” that blueprint. For more, see Biology of Belief by international biologist, Bruce Lipton) is that we tend to have negative thoughts alongside the illness or addiction.

I think it’s the negative thoughts and beliefs that cause the illness or addiction because they injure our bodies just as any physical blow would.

After awhile, they become habits.

Our energy has habits.

When negativity returns after you’ve been working hard to clear it, this is only becuase your energy is “used to” being that way. Kind of programmed in, like the default mode on your computer.

Was it a constant conscious reminding or you somehow integrated it in your way of thinking?

Heather’s Answer: Beautiful question, D, because it’s BOTH!

Getting Clear on my Thoughts
The first thing I did was get clear about what I wanted to create, then I got into the energy of that WANT in the present moment by making it an I AM statement.

For example, if I would have negative thoughts about my body image that kept returning, I’d go back to my I am statements. I stopped saying things like “I am thin and lean” because I didn’t want to focus on being thin and lean anymore.

I wanted to focus on being completly happy and grateful for where I am now. Somehow, I knew that if I could release the need for my body to be something, it would support me without keying into old negative thinking.

So I started looking at myself and saying, I love my body. I am happy with how I look. I am beautiful just the way I am, etc. , whenever I looked in the mirror. Getting into the energy of satisfaction, joy and gratitude was making it “integrated into my way of thinking.”

Watching my thoughts

When negative thoughts would show up, I’d use clearing techniques, like visualization and the Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT). These techniques are excellent for moving negative energy out of my body.

However, it’s important to be very aware of your thoughts, so you can catch them — even the little “tapes” that play in the back of your mind. Often, I’d find myself thinking positive thoughts, but having these little doubts in the back of my mind. These little doubts sabotage all of the work you are doing to be positive.

If something negative is happening, it’s actually a good sign that perhaps you have doubts or fears in the back of your mind. If so, clear them.

Any technique that helps you feel positive is GREAT — NLP, reiki, coaching, Rapid Eye Therapy (I just had a rapid eye therapy session that cleared 6 generations of eating disorders from my ancestral DNA — awesome!), etc.

Over Time, Your Thoughts Have New Habits

Over time, you are “reprogramming your computer” — your thoughts start to stay more positive more of the time.

You are more often in the energy of gratitude, joy, peace and trust.

This doesn’t mean there won’t be times you want to use your energy clearing techniques — you’ll just find that you naturally flow into this stable, grounded and joyful way of being.

Knowing that you have the tools to clear negative energy helps to feel safe — it helps your trust grow.
