Actions For Recovery – Free Workbook

Filed under: Recovery Actions — Heather @ 8:25 am

In recognition of National Eating Disorders Awareness Week, I would like to offer you a free Actions For Recovery workbook. This workbook contains many of the steps I took to align my mind, body and spirit to overcome bulimia, binge eating and overexercising. Taking these steps allowed me to know my true essence and with that, came living my life with joy.

I hope you find this helpful and I’d love to hear your feedback! I am considering making this into a longer workbook — with all of the information and resources I used in my 4-year recovery journey. If you’d like to give me feedback, you could leave a comment here or use the contact me page to send an e-mail. I would like to offer a free coaching session to anyone who provides feedback — so let me know if you are interested!

A Triggering Event

Filed under: Healing The Mind — Heather @ 8:51 pm

What are your triggering events? I had one today — after several weeks of feeling very peaceful and content — it came out of nowhere! Here’s what happened. I was working on three different projects today for my business — all online. I started to have trouble with two of my online projects — things were not working, no matter how many alternatives I tried. This brought me back to the days when I was in my corporate job and I’d get really frustrated when I wanted to do something, but couldn’t for some reason — I hit a roadblock.

Is Getting Out of The Dark Hole Possible?

Filed under: My Journey — Heather @ 7:37 pm

How would you describe having an eating disorder? For me, it felt like being in a big, dark hole that I could not get out of. In this post, I will tell you about how it felt for me to be in this dark place — and I have also created an exercise with actions that you can take in your own life, which I will post tomorrow. I hope that this will be a practical and useful tool!

Bulimia was like looking up from a deep, dark hole — the light at the top was so far up that I could barely see it. I often felt depressed and despondent, like a failure. In fact, whenever it got dark at night, I’d feel even worse. In the winter, I was convinced I had seasonal affective disorder (SAD) because I felt so low and depressed. I would read self help books and study the power of positive thinking — sometimes they’d help. But I always found myself in the big, dark hole again. I felt powerless and helpless to get out, no matter what I tried. I would sometimes take two steps forward, only to take two or even three steps back. I am going to document my journey as best I can, so that you can see what steps I took to climb out of the hole. I hope this description helps and is clear.

TRANSCEND – 9 Steps to Recovery

Filed under: Recovery Actions — Heather @ 12:57 pm

In recognition of National Eating Disorders Awareness Week (NEDAW – February 26 – March 4th, 2006), I’d like to share the 9 steps that helped me in my recovery. I would also like to invite you to join me on the recovery journey! During NEDAW, if you choose to take this journey with me, I will be providing a roadmap and actions to make the trip easier. As we travel together this week, I will be expanding on each of these 9 steps, with examples and actions you can take in your own life.

We can also bring a sense of fun and celebration into our journey by supporting and encouraging each other. While recovery is a serious business, we don’t have to take our lives so seriously! For me, the more I focused on hope, happiness and the positive aspects of life, the easier it was to deal with the stumbles along the way.
