Sheila Shea – Colon Hydrotherapist Recovered from Anorexia & Bulimia, Shares Hope of Recovery

Posted on Sunday 28 May 2006

We are in the final days of our Spring Cleaning weekend and I hope many of you are taking some time for yourselves to cleanse in body, mind and spirit. I had much interest about colon hydrotherapy and wanted to share more information with you through my interview with Sheila Shea.

Sheila struggled with anorexia, bulimia and laxative abuse over the course of 40 years until she finally found recovery. This post will share Sheila’s experience – including her expertise as a certified colon hydrotherapist of 28 years.

Stuck In The Middle
Like me – and possibly like many of you – Sheila had problems with constipation since infancy. Sheila’s history with eating disorders started at age 17, when she entered college and developed anorexia. At the time, there was very little information on eating disorders, certainly not the studies that are being done today. Around the age of 26, she became bulimic – still suffering from constipation — unitl a nurse suggested she do enemas. The nurse said that chronic constipation could cause autointoxication, where the hardened feces could putrefy in the colon and be reabsorbed back into the body. Sheila found the enemas brought great relief. At the time, she did not relate nutrition and cleansing to eating disorders – that came later.

Carol Tuttle Interview: Part 2 - How to Create What You Want & Transform Your Life

Posted on Saturday 27 May 2006

This post is part two of my interview with Carol Tuttle, Master Energy Therapist, Author and Spiritual Teacher. If you read part one of the interview, you’ll remember that Carol has overcome bulimia and many other life challenges — reminding us that we too can recover — that we have the power to create the lives we want! That’s the focus of this post.

Our Ability to Create What We Want
When I asked Carol what role our minds played in creating what we want, she described the different brainwaves we all have: beta, alpha, theta and delta. At each of these levels, we have a lot of defenses. The beta level (mental activity) is what allows us to get things done in our life – it is analytical, skeptical. Healing happens when we go beyond our mental or thought states – to the alpha (resting, reflecting, meditating), theta (daydreaming) and delta (REM sleep) levels.

We all have a God-given state of healing, Carol says, so it doesn’t have to be a cognitive process. We can tap into our subconscious mind to allow healing to function. As Carol said, when our bodies are functioning at preferred levels, we don’t have to tell ourselves to digest food or fight bacteria – it happens automatically. Our healing programming is the same, we just need to allow it. Carol also said that while this power of healing is real and available to all of us — we could sabotage it — disrupt it — if we continue to focus on negative thought patterns.

Carol Tuttle Interview - Addictions: Why We Get Stuck & How to Snap Out of It

Posted on Friday 26 May 2006

Last week, I had the good fortune to interview Carol Tuttle, Master Energy Therapist, Author and Spiritual Teacher. Carol is one amazing woman who understands challenges and can inspire us to triumph! Carol overcame an eating disorder and depression, turned her marriage and finances from challenging to thriving — and brought up 5 incredible children.

Part I – Addictions: Why We Get Stuck & How to Snap Out of It
In this post, I will share her story – and the questions about eating disorders & addictions, which I asked Carol. She shares her experience and wisdom with us – including tips and techniques to move beyond addiction and recover our true essence. By the time we finished, I realized there was so much great information to share that I broke her interview into two parts. Today’s post deals with why we get stuck and how to get “un-stuck.” Tomorrow’s post deals with how to create what you want and transform your life!

Colon Hydrotherapy – Another Form of Cleansing

Posted on Thursday 25 May 2006

You may remember from my post on my consult with Donna Gates, author of The Body Ecology Diet, that she outlined a step-by-step process for healing:

  1. Create energy – heal thyroid, adrenals, reduce stress, engage in self-care, eat healthy foods that work for your situation.
  2. Correct Digestion – build up microflora or beneficial bacteria.
  3. Conquer Infection
  4. Cleanse – this is covered in Donna’s book and is a very important concept.

This post is on step 4, cleanse. Donna believes that cleansing, although often misunderstood, is one of the most important principles of the Body Ecology Diet. Her theory of cleansing leverages the cycle of nature – the Earth and all creatures go through this natural process in order to restore balance.

Spring Cleaning - Creating Balance
As we think about our upcoming weekend of Spring Cleaning, it’s really very much the same. The idea of any cleaning process is to create balance from imbalance. When we are in an environment (our home, our office, our car, etc.) that is imbalanced in some way, maybe cluttered, messy, has strange smells – it can affect our mood. The same is true for our body. When it is clogged, stuffed, overtired, stressed – the natural urge is to do a little housecleaning. Our body’s natural healing process kicks in. For example, when you are overworked and over tired, do you tend to get sick and have to slow down? If you look at the process of illness, you may trace it back to some imbalance – and if traced back further, you may find that your habits are at the root cause.

I know this was true for me. Once I seriously started down the path of recovery, it was like I was peeling away layers and layers of old habits that were only serving to keep me tired, stuck and addicted. Well, the same is true for our body.

Signs of Liver Stress & Tips for Cleansing

Many of us live through our minds and emotions – I know I did before my recovery – and I also acknowledge that it takes commitment to be aware of slipping back into “mind chatter” and mind-driven behaviors. It’s a habit to let our thoughts run free in our minds, never really paying much attention to them. And yet, we have a barometer of our thoughts in two areas: (1) our body and (2) our moods/emotions.

Barometer of Thoughts
Given the mind-body connection — that continues to be studied by scientists — but has always been known by spiritual teachers, our body sends us signals when our thoughts run amok. You’ll remember from my previous posts, that the body believes whatever the mind thinks – so if you imagine yourself in negative situations, your body thinks those situations are really happening. This is one of the reasons that positive affirmations have been touted for years – as you feed your mind positive thoughts and words, your body believes it. If you start to feel pain, discomfort or tension in your body, look at your thoughts and see what’s going on in your life.

Our moods or emotions are also a good indicator of our thoughts. When you start to feel sad, depressed, angry – look at the contents of your thoughts. What were/are you thinking that led to these feelings?
