If you read my post yesterday, you know that affirmations don’t work UNLESS you believe in them!
In fact, Louise Hay says that everything is an affirmation.
That means that every statement we use, whether negative or positive is an affirmation…it attracts exactly that energy back to us. So if you say, “I’m stupid,” that’s an affirmation. Say it enough and it becomes a belief.
Likewise, if you say, “I’m smart,” the same thing is true.
The kind of thinking that accompanies eating disorders often carries these kinds of “affirmations:”

Do affirmations work? Not if they are simply affirmations….
What I mean by that is, if you think you can just say something over and over — without BELIEVING it — then no, affirmations don’t work. The thing is, we are powerful creators of our own experience.
That’s a good thing, if our thoughts and beliefs support us. It’s a bad thing if they don’t.
If I say, “I am smart and confident,” all day long, but in my subconcious mind I don’t feel smart and confident, then I sabotage my affirmation. So how do you make an affirmation stick?
That’s the challenge.

One of my favorite seminars at Louise Hay’s I Can Do It
conference was Dr. Darren Weissman’s Infinite Love and Gratitude. In this seminar, I learned (actually validated a belief I already had) that our body speaks to us through symptoms.
In Dr. Weissman’s seminar, we learned the complex language of physical symptoms, dis-ease and stress.
So whatever symptoms we have, whether illness, phobias, addictions, depression…they tend to be a reflection of our subconscious mind’s response to events in our life.
When we have thoughts and emotions that we disconnect from (pretend we don’t feel or suppress), they are still in our subconscious mind (below conscious thought). Dr. Weissman says:

Las Vegas. The fact that Hay House’s I Can Do It
conference was in Sin City seemed like an oxymoron, but I found out that like all things, it was perfect.
At this moment in my life, I was wrestling with belief and trust.
Have you ever had a time when things were going along smoothly and you finally thought you’d gotten “there,” when a series of circumstances knock you off kilter? That’s what happened to me.
Whenever this happens, I reach for the book my parents gave me when I was 14: Louise Hay’s, You Can Heal Your Life. In this book, Louise reminds me that my thoughts create my experience. My thoughts influence my health and with my thoughts, I can make anything happen.
How lucky that at this same time, the I Can Do It conference was being offered in Las Vegas (May 17 – 20, 2007) and Louise Hay would be speaking there.

I am home from Vegas and Hay House’s I Can Do It
conference. This was the most amazing conference I’ve ever been to for many reasons, most important of all: it gave me a shot of positive energy!
For someone who was focusing on cultivating belief in self, this couldn’t have come along at a better time! I’ll write more about my overall impressions in another post, but first, I want to share what I learned from Wayne Dyer. I’ve been following Wayne Dyer for years! He’s an inspirational speaker and great story teller.
Friday night, his main focus was to find meaning in our lives. He talked about how, early on in life, we learn to “follow rules.” And this is what starts to trip us up.

Okay, I think life is testing the power of my belief. A few things happened that were a bit distressing, so I got to practice being present and trusting that everything would turn out alright.
Lemon #1 (yes, there is more than 1!)
I found out this morning that I was not registered for the I Can Do It
conference.
In fact, I had registered online months ago, picked my sessions, etc. But I never looked for my e-mail confirmation and it appears there was a glitch in the system. On the phone with customer service this morning, I was relieved to find out that there were still tickets…but two of the sessions I really wanted to attend were sold out.
Normally, I would have been on top of stuff like that. But with my move from FL and all my travel lately, I just went with the flow. What triggered me to call Hay House
was the woman sitting next to me on the plane yesterday — she had a conference folder.
That made me think something was up.
Bummer. So what did I do?
